Keywords: The transition from the Renaissance to the Baroque era saw new developments in technology, architecture, painting, and music. From the Renaissance style emerged the decadent harmonies and ornamented melodies of Baroque music. Andre Campra’s Missa ‘Ad majorem dei gloriam’ is a work combining both elements of old and new. Johann Sebastian Bach was very influential in establishing the late Baroque style. Charpentier’s Te Deum in C is an intimate yet powerful composition using only four voices and continuo. Completing our program, we will present Three Motets by Canadian composer Allan Bevan composed between 1999 and 2001. Bevan’s pieces express seventeenth century texts in a creative and thoughtful way, a perfect compliment to Campra, Charpentier, and Bach.
