Each year we sort and distribute almost two million kilograms of food that makes its way to the tables of Nova Scotians experiencing food insecurity. Donations come to us from a variety of sources - both provincially and nationally - and we then distribute that food to our member agencies based on HungerCount, an annual report on food bank use. As an example, if five percent of the province's hunger population is accessing food support in a particular community, then that community gets five percent of the total food donations we receive. This ‘fair share’ system ensures people in communities across the province have access to a balanced variety of nutritious food in times of need.
