As Ontario's first laptop-based university, UOIT offers a diverse array of challenging and technology rich undergraduate and graduate degree programs through its faculties of Business and Information Technology; Education; Energy Systems and Nuclear Science; Engineering and Applied Science; Health Sciences; Science; and Social Science and Humanities (formerly Criminology, Justice and Policy Studies). Many programs are unique to Ontario and even Canada, and new programs are regularly developed to meet the demands of today’s knowledge-driven economy. UOIT is growing. The university received a combined $73.4 million from both the federal and provincial governments towards the construction of two state-of-the-art facilities on its north Oshawa campus, the General Motors of Canada Automotive Centre of Excellence (ACE) and the new Energy Research Centre. And that’s not all UOIT has increased its presence in the heart of the city. The downtown Oshawa campus expansion now includes a high-tech Faculty of Education and Faculty of Social Science and Humanities buildings and a new lecture hall, the historic Regent Theatre. UOIT receives substantial research funding from industry, foundations and provincial and federal granting agencies. In a highly competitive research environment, UOIT’s research performance has been unprecedented. Since 2003, UOIT has received six prestigious Canada Research Chairs; five industrial chairs; established its first spinoff company; and filed a number of patents from research projects conducted by its highly motivated faculty and students.
